When Poets Joined to Play

At dusk we met online,
our link a chain of poems each week;
the idea to empty essentials one after another
like a word association game.
From all around the globe we sat,
hands on keyboards, pencils near-
a moment in time, a union in cyberspace;
our dear operator a yellow rose with a patient heart.
The time approached,
we sat prepared to shoot off words in unison.
A sudden rain with sporadic drops from everywhere
splat, FORGIVEN
each thread a trace of chaos,
a recipe for ADD/ADHD,
a race to keep up,
a bond with poets on the fence of laughter
as spontaneous as the raindrops, the words,
the camaraderie on a Friday night when poets joined to play.

Hooray! I love this piece, Laurie. It shall forever live in the corridors of my heart, along with the evening you've captured so beautifully. Thank you for the yellow rose. :)

I really love the last three lines, it has me hooting already for the next time. LoL

I laughed at this, Laurie. I was only at the meeting for a short time. Couldn't figure out the train of thought...I do think a chat room would work a bit better. But you captured the 'flavor' of what I experienced while present.

Ah--I want to try it in actuality rather than just in metaphor, maybe. You make it sound vital. Where's the hangout this Friday? Oh, it's just a poem?

It sounds as if you all had a blast. If it was anything like the email stampede a few weeks ago I can well imagine the laughter. What a wonderful poem to recall it all Laurie. Isn't it fabulous when we can connect like that in an instant from all over the world.

Laurie, I love this! Yes, it is an evening I will never forget. Those last three lines tie the poem up beautifully. Thanks for writing this. My poor husband was patiently waiting for me to get off the computer, we had some place we needed to be, and our fun made us a trifle late ;)

Here's to the next time.

You caught the sporadic and frenetic, or was it frantic attempts at staying in the right conversation. It reminded me more of toddlers at daycare. So many fits and starts. Delightful capture of the evening.

Laurie, I feel bad, I missed the festivities. Reminds me of The Teddy Bears' Picnic! Great use of the Wordle and just all around fun to read. Peace, Amy
