If you lose a good thing,
don't expect me to sit on your pity pot
and watch you flush yourself like a dead goldfish.
If you lose a good thing,
don't blow bubbles in your Budweiser
or shove hot air down the throat of a stranger;
you might two-step your way straight to jail.
If you lose a good thing,
don't forget to take the tissues
out of your Wranglers before you do your laundry;
leave them out to dry on an old beat-up clothesline
like you did me.

aw, man, i just love the fierceness of these lines, Laurie! flushed like a goldfish, heh. i also love your use of the phrase "pity pot." makes me giggle a little, in a good way. yay!
I'd have to quote this whole whirlwind back at you to show you what I love--no cliches anywhere, this is all so fresh and unique and on target--Bull's Eye.
Plus, I love clothes lines--there was one in each of my performance pieces some 20 years a go. Airing the family laundry--the first thing I ever got punished for! And so I adopted and adapted it and the Clothes line is like an altar.
You may have been hung out to dry, but you are reanimated and full of spit and wildfire! Thank you for this poem.
oh snap...great closing lines that really twist the emotion in it...was thinking early on what an interesting attitude you were having and now the reason is clear...smiles...tight write...
That last line got me...what a close ~
I like the use of the pity pot and clothesline ~
Every line stands strong on its own....this is awesome Laurie!!
With a huge smile on my face .... there are so many great 'bluesy' lines I can't choose a favorite!!! Bubbles in Budweiser comes close though.
Ouch! I'm with you all the way, sister!
I shall take the image of some dead-beat sitting on a pity pot slurping his beer and picking bits of old tissue off his crumpled jeans!
Amazing closing lines ...
Love that ending, which lets him know what you REALLY think! (Smiles)
Wow! You let him have it with this blues poem. "or shove hot air down the throat of a stranger" Love that!
Love the ending, very unexpected.
