Sunday Prompts

The Infusion of Anxiety

A hunched-back silhouette
filtered through textured
curtains in the rural cabin
across Mason Bridge. Smoky
wisps floated out the red
brick chimney, brandishing
the clean air apple. Walking
miles on end without reprieve,
the broken man decided to stop
and ask for a bite. A wrinkled
lady answered on the third
knock; said yes, he could eke
out a homemade meal. Slurping
salty soup, he recognized
the canned chicken taste,
thick noodles, zesty flavor.
The down-trodden man grinned
and winked his knowing eye.
Tension lifted like fog, two
lonely souls talked the night
away. Protective shields
they surrendered and let
new friendship blossom.

  1. This is lovely, the words wanted a story this week, didn't they? You did a wonderful job, Laurie. I love the idea of love later in life. That sparkle in the eye, the newness.

Unfortunately, your link didn't work. I came here from the whirling blogs. If you want to try again, I can delete the others.

    I'm glad you're playing!

  2. You've nailed it, Laurie. These words were tough ones, weren't they? This is such a poem of hope!

  5. You've told us a lovely story, Laurie. Wonderful ble ding of the wordle words. The only thing that gave me pause was the idea of a chimney brandishing a clean-air apple!

  6. Viv- Perhaps my brain was befuddled with too much wordle-wind.

(It's the smoke filling the clean air with fragrant apple).

  7. 'clean air apple' was my favourite line actually - sometimes those brain fuddles create some great words..I love how this opened up - like he could straighten his back and see kindness..jae

  8. A delightful story for an old man to read. The soup sounds delicious, but I suspect, too salty for my blood pressure.

  9. So fun to read, with a delightful conclusion. I like the construction as well.

  11. Laurie, those words did call for a story to be told, didn't they? You did a fine job with them. I love that image of the smoky wisps "brandishing / the clean air apple." I accidentally first read that as "clean apple air". Kindness and shared soup go a long way.

  12. Heartwarming poem, Laurie! I'm enjoying how we each interact with the wordle and create different moods and scenes from it.

  14. Laurie...

I'm also enjoying the varied offerings of stories found in the wordles...well done with yours!! And...I, too, combined the two prompts! The wordle...with "surrender".

    My favorite line:
    Tension lifted like fog, two
    lonely souls talked the night
    away.

    Again...well done!
