Every Time

a fearful face
cobbled
in a myriad of shadows
cleaved
within hell’s concrete mind
pulsating
blatant signs--
guilt, grief, regret, gloom

every time she remembers

running circles
high-speed
on a hamster wheel
caged
dark memories--
a church, a promise, a gun: BOOM! BOOM!
adventure lost to fear alone

every time she remembers

holy moley... I get the feeling of a shot gun wedding gone wrong. I love the fast action of the piece...it's perfect.

  3. This is sad, Laurie. So sad. The words make me think that it must about the friend you lost. Such a hard memory.

  10. A great poem Laurie.
That line - a church, a promise, a gun - is so powerful. Full of the fear and regrets from decisions wrongly made.

  11. Laurie, the way you repeat "every time she remembers" pulls you back to the stanza before. I felt trapped with her in her fear.
