Give Me You

We'll discuss gifts
if you insist,

but I must expose
how my intentions arose--

a brief moment of clarity
when time became a mystery

and all the stuff I could touch
didn't matter that much.

What's more meaningful to me
is you beside the Christmas tree.

  2. I understand, Laurie. There is a time in everyone's life, I think, that they realize that 'stuff' is not all that important.

  10. What a delight line was "a brief moment of clarity when time became a mystery". Only someone who had been in love could pen that. The poem is an utter delight.

  12. Poem works on two levels, Laurie; both in the strength of your memory of Mom, and perhaps your spouse too; that after decades of domesticity, the mindless gifts have less allure; only the love endures.

  13. smiles....yes, there comes a point when more stuff is no longer important and we realize it is the people that matter and we would just as well just have them as the gift...

  15. 'We will discuss the gift' - first line
    and
'is you beside the Christmas tree.' - made a completed puzzle.
    Nice, Lauri.
