I am; how did you guess?
Was it the fact I cried out
in the middle of the night
for King Kong, declared
him handsome and easy-
going as if he were Jesus?
Or was it the fact a lesser
god promised to center me?

...oh, thought provoking Laurie... i, actually, don't know how to handle this... i guess, i may have to gather first my powers as a mythical sleuth... see, you create a battle inside my mind now... aww... smiles...
The beginning of this poem--"I am"-- commands my attention, and each probing question keeps me reading to the very end. The fact that there are no answers keeps me intrigued, even as I turn to other pursuits...
this 'lesser god' seems more grounded..clever take on 3 prompts, Laurie :)
who will be our master....who will be our port in that storm of the mind....someone grounded in this earth, or someone above it...these are the questions you leave me with today...

King Kong has always scared me. I do hope a 'lesser god' appears.
Oh wow, now that's how you work a prompt! I had no idea for this one. Love what you did!
Oh those battles within us can be so mighty, and so randomly unexpected, and so very different for all of us.... your poem gives me many thoughts to ponder.
This was inventive and because it is so brief it lends itself well to re-readings. I enjoyed it more and more as I read and re-read.
intriguing...king kong , Jesus , a lesser god....unending battle...
I love the whole concept of a lesser god and think you have written a wizard of a response to the prompt. I, too, think the brevity makes a terrific impact. Way to go!
truly thought provoking
We are all lesser gods, are we not? Your poem hints that some are more so than others.
So thought provoking, I love King Kong.
Laurie, I echo the words of others--thought provoking, this is. :)
Cool. Must be a movie about Jesus and/or King Kong I missed with either easy going and good looking ...
Laurie, Enjoyed reading this poem. That monster King Kong still amazes me. Ah, lesser Gods are so much better, I guess.
Haunting poem. well done !
As usual Laurie, an excellent response to the prompt. Inner battles are each so unique. Thank you for posting.
Where is the anchor of the soul and is there a monster lurking inside just under the surface. This is much more that the parts.
Very intriguing, Laurie.
This excellent write left me with a lot to think about.
Well said... Battle with mind is so hard and it cant be controlled very easily..... and thanks for visiting me.... Yes I know I dont have to fight it alone
I can honestly say that, up until this moment, I had not ever imagined you in the clutches of a giant ape.
Crying out in the middle of the night for King Kong...ha... We often do settle for lesser gods.
Maybe the lesser god has the potential to thrive in all of us..which makes us proclaim 'I am'..let's hope..
It is difficult combining challenges ... you do it beautifully!
Never pin your hopes on a lesser god, Laurie. This is a very concise judgement on human nature. Nicely done.
Laurie, as others have said, powerful words and leaving a mystery--you have a rare talent of many poetic voices :-)
Ha! the vagaries are disturbing.
Superb!
Who is there to hear our cries? The great I Am or some lesser god? I'll go with Him...King Kong frightens me, and other idols have feet of clay...smiles!
This really made me think!
A veritable cri de coeur.
Always interesting to see your amalgamated work prompted by several sites, Laurie.
"The lesser god" - something I have always pondered/struggled with, crying out for understanding, if not more.... Thank you for sharing.
King Kong, Jesus, a lesser god...an unlikely trinity...delightful piece!
I'd much rather have a lesser God. King Kong scares me.
