Moons and Meteors
by Laurie Kolp

They say strange behavior
emerges with the full moon;
teachers and parents alike
look with scorn upon the
children, acting like vampires
in search of blood; hunters
awaiting prey, ready to
pounce at the first inkling
of a deer. These
kids-gone-wild
bounce on each other;
unruly,
uncontrollable,
feral beasts
in search of an outlet for
their pent-up energy
that knows no bounds.
Only the moon is not full,
and these children of mine
seem to have lost their mind.
Wasn’t there a meteor
shower last night?
