When Testosterone Starts Kicking In

He said he couldn’t wait ‘til high school
when he could date, and then he paused
said it didn’t matter if
she was smart or not as
long as she was hot.
I rolled my eyes
said a prayer.

Congratulations and well done. Growing up does seem to be driven by urges, but then being grown up is as well.

As a HS teacher and not a mom, I thought those were just the necessary code words having nothing to do with the honest shyness and fear of rejection that the mystery of relationship entails. But, then, it feels like peer pressure and can cause the weaker spirits to ruin their lives.
Sigh.
