Descension Into Ascension

step right up, he said,
then threw her down
and watched her
twirl deep
into a
hole
so he
could pick
her up and lead her
step by step, the healing
path of twelve she'd only
recognize from where she's been

Good message in this poem, Laurie. Sometimes a person DOES have to hit bottom before they can walk those 12 Steps back to the top again. Very clever!!

Interesting how the form you have used mirrors her downfall and then the hope for rehab!

Laurie, I was wondering if someone would use the 12 steps--an emotional write--so hard to climb out of that pit--well done!

Encouraging message in this poem Laurie. When one hits rock bottom, there is only one way to go, up. Nice write!

very nice. I like the twirling bit...a little out of control and then the healing. I like the last bit too about only recognizing from where we've been. that's the tough part

Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom to make it to the top. And yes, one has to experience that rock bottom to truly understand what it is. Nicely penned.

Like others have said I like the way the shape reflects the meaning of the poem. Very solemn message.

Ah ... falling hard and getting back up is such a hard thing to do ... stepping back one step at a time ... and keeping the memory of where you've been ... such a process ... good write, Laurie, good write.
