We'll discuss gifts
if you insist,
but I must expose
how my intentions arose--
a brief moment of clarity
when time became a mystery
and all the stuff I could touch
didn't matter that much.
What's more meaningful to me
is you beside the Christmas tree.

I love this!
Direct, lilting, heartfelt, killer closing lines. Terrific seasonal piece, Laurie.
Best wishes ~ jh
I understand, Laurie. There is a time in everyone's life, I think, that they realize that 'stuff' is not all that important.
Sweet words so true.
Oh yes! I'm missing. A few this year! Adorable!!
Friends and loved ones are the best gift x
people are always the best gift
Amen. Love the progression here and the shape. I miss you, Laurie.
Lovely ending lines Laurie~ I agree wholeheartedly ~
I can identify with your feelings Laurie! People matter more than stuff.
Love is the greatest gift, in all its form and expressions. Excellent.
This is exactly how love feels. Very nice.
What a delight line was "a brief moment of clarity when time became a mystery". Only someone who had been in love could pen that. The poem is an utter delight.
Oh yes, and I do hope she will be there, beside the Christmas tree this year, Laurie.
Poem works on two levels, Laurie; both in the strength of your memory of Mom, and perhaps your spouse too; that after decades of domesticity, the mindless gifts have less allure; only the love endures.
smiles....yes, there comes a point when more stuff is no longer important and we realize it is the people that matter and we would just as well just have them as the gift...
What's so wonderful is when you realize that is all you need. (I just realized I used last weeks words for 3WW! oops!)
'We will discuss the gift' - first line
and
'is you beside the Christmas tree.' - made a completed puzzle.
Nice, Lauri.
Emotion the best gift!
everything else vanishes into insignificance before the loved ones ...deep longing beautifully expressed....
yes! I'm just going to put a red bow on my big toe this Christmas!
Cheers!
Wow the gift of presence. So well said!
Gifts are all about love :-)
Presence trumps presents anyday.
It's so beautifully written and so true!
Yes!one of my favorite carols is "All I want for Christmas, is you" :-) love and family are the best gifts
