I stood in the pristine mezzanine
watching the show unaware, beware
I was the main star, vain gar
trying to manipulate, capitulate
life’s unending tune, soon
I sat down, closed my eyes, lies
no more could I take, a break
I looked up, abrupt
and saw the director, protector
reaching out his hand, grand
finale unknown; peace, release
and that’s what got me here, we’re
in it together… forever.

One of my favourite quotes!
In Grade 9 (?) we HAD to memorize the bard's words, whether we really understood it or not in our early teen years.
Now, a few more years/decades down the road, I am so happy to have had this poem along the way!
Best in Poetry Month, Laurie!
Laurie - Love it!! I just love your new cardinal picture too! Did you take it? It's wonderful!
Laurie, Nicely done piece about finding your inner peace. Happy poeming!
Pamela
Thank you!
Patricia- I love the quote as well... it is very meaningful to me.
Michelle- A friend took the picture... isn't it cute?
Pamela- Poeming really does give me a piece of peace... happy poeming to you, too.
Very beautiful. : )
Laurie - I loved the theatre metaphor! Brilliant! What a great way to kick off NaPoWriMo!
Nicely done. Now you've got the cogs in my brain cranking out ideas for that prompt.
Also liked this...and the very effective metaphor. Perhaps the director knows the ending...but we players don't...do we? really wouldn't want to. Very good. Vb
I like that rhyme form. Is there a name for it?
= ) Thanks!
I'm glad I don't know the ending and I have complete trust that the Director will carry me through.
As far as the form, it just came... I'll have to ask my muse what she calls it. Any ideas?
And the lights go down on a wonderful first night! Well done!
love your words of wisdom, well done.
We never know how long forever will be, when we make the promise?
Beautifully done, Laurie!
Beautiful simple as that!
Beautiful words! And very inspired. I just wrote a poem using a part of this famous quote!
