Concrete Words

I drag these rubber
boots through biting
brushes. Every step I
take, the tangled bramble
challenging. No jabs
nor wild punches can
penetrate my thickened
skin, but the harsh words
you mumble thinking
I don't hear form
concrete in these
waders through my life.

@laurie kolp

Prompt inspiration: 3WW (drag, mumble, penetrate)

Fabulous inference and imagery, Laurie. Heavy-laden with meaning, too.

I hate that harsh words can penetrate anything. I wish someone would invent a force field that made them bounce off. Great poem.

wow, concrete in the waders of my life is an awesome line and sums it up poignantly.

So much effort to keep wading through..I see little red wellies and lots of brambles and bush..always, always keep forging ahead though...that's how you leave me in this wonderful piece..Jae

Words are worse than anything when it pierces

A sharp tongue is one of the few things I inherited from my father and learned from my brothers, which I wish I hadn't. The saying that actions speak louder than words seems to apply more in some instances than others.
