I'm tired of this wall protecting my heart
A stockade guarding against friendship
Keeping you an arm's length away
From me
I'm sure there must be someone
Who won't leave
Or die
So here's some TNT
Go ahead... demolish the fences
Help my resolution give birth to brighter days
Bring those defenses down
But let the transformation be
As gentle as a butterfly
Breaking free from dormancy
And flying into your arms

I like that image very much indeed.
Laurie, this is gorgeous writing.
Beautifully put.
A wonderful resolution, and a beautiful poem. Very nice.
So beautifully written! I especially relate to "surely there must be someone who wont leave or die", and the wish for the walls to come down gently. For that, perhaps something other than TNT:-)
That last stanza is lovely!
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I hope you have a blessed 2012!
This was a truly beautiful piece of writing.
Lovely and flowing. The last lines were particularly beautiful and evocative.
truly stirring and beautifully spoken from the heart
Happy New Year
I'm with Sherry - those are the words that tugged my heartstrings also:
"I'm sure there must be someone
Who won't leave
Or die"
Lovely poem and all inspired by just 3 words ... nice
Laurie, you've written this poem honesty and pretty. it does become tiresome protecting one's heart and
to what end?
so well done with these 3 words..thanks for sharing Laurie
A beautiful resolution.
An outstanding line:
"Breaking free from dormancy"
This is beautiful. Such lovely imagery. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Like others I also loved this, particularly the line
"Help my resolution give birth to brighter days"
But I couldn't help feeling that TNT was a little too strong for the gentle work done by a butterfly.
We do build those walls high, don't we, trouble is, then we're stuck behind them too.
Glad to see you are willing to break yours down. Happy New Year Laurie.
The first stanza is a great set up for an insightful poem. Loved it.
I really like what you did with the three words. breaking down those fences.
Well done!
Blessings
Impressively beautiful piece of writing.
