No Permission Needed
by Laurie Kolp
A generation appeased by electronic babysitters
needs no permission for impulsive insolence;
they ride the rocky currents in survival mode
as innocent victims of their parent’s absence,
irreverent and disrespectful to authority
using violence as a mode of robotic coping
like the video games they play at night,
when ill-mannered brutes should be in bed
reading Aesop’s fables with their guardians.
