For you to see one of those medieval maps painted on animal skins is dynamic, and different; launching us, as pointed out already, from patina to adventure, from scars to pulp novels written before WWI; when mother's words became a sampler, framed and hung in the downstairs bathroom.
I like your choice of viewpoint on the prompt. Chrysanthemums and continents linked in a few words, a flower like a windmill showing us this old rusting world, so much symbolism to ponder.
The stains are telling, and images of continents are somewhat remakably obvious when now pointed out to us. It takes a good eye though to see it in the first place.
