they're always looking up at me
with those kind, probing, button eyes
placating the storm between mine
sometimes they even smile
if I'm lucky, I catch them
looking up like that
I know I'm loved
no matter what.

Dogs are so great. Cats sometimes look up, but only from the empty foodbowl
