I Choose Happiness

When misery smacked me
in the face
with demeaning smirks
and words of disgrace

like...
You’re not good enough,
You don’t deserve that!

I looked back at her
and said, NO!
Go away! Scat!

And then turned
my head
the other way,
said, YES!
to happiness
just for today.

A conscious choice
to live my life free,
no longer a prisoner
to the misery of ME.

Several of you have asked me about my new blog header. I wanted to let you know my friend, Sheila Moore did this for me.

I love the message in this poem, Laurie -- turning your back on misery and saying YES to happiness! Perfect!

Positive uplifting sassy beat to an absolutely essential cry of freedom. Glorious!

For me "Just for today" is the pivotal line of your poem - misery loves to ruminate on tomorrow and yesterday and you can't give it any wiggle room :-)

saying yes to happiness, that is a beautiful thing...and saying no to the other is def something we have to do or it will hang around....

"YES!
to happiness
just for today." Isn't this the best thing we could do, embrace happiness? I loved the poem.

PS: Your new blog header is cool :-)

i do believe that our personal happiness can be affected by our conscious choices most of the time.

There's a deep psychology in this one. We're often slave to ourselves.

Laurie, I love your "yes" keep saying that--you have so many good reasons to keep saying "scat" :-) Love the new header, too.

Scat, cat. I don't know if there's a better y/n subject to consider, as an individual, than the one you have written about.

PS--I like the cardinals.

Nice message, but sometimes it isn't easy("no longer a prisoner
to the misery of ME. ")
