Dandelion Dreams

Young Woman Picking the Fruit of Knowledge, 1892 by Mary Cassatt
Picture prompt courtesy of The Mag167

Wasted, the years
counting on a dream,
a wish to blow away
her life,
as if
 change came
through osmosis.

A great interpretation of that wistful look on her face. Very nice.

...change came through osmosis... i liked that... though sadly many of us could dream a dream... only few could live it to reality... like dandelions we flew our dreams in the air by the tune of bon voyage with hopes of starting a new life... but only few seeds can land on the right soil... excellent short! smiles...

and as she blows...each little seed is a wish...and hopefully a few will find fertile ground you know...smiles. i love dandelions...

You're right - the painting does have a feel of a blow-away dandelion clock. Clever girl!

Dreamy and wishful. Change through osmosis fits with the dandelion's flowering and blowing of the seeds:) Nice

It's sad but true that many waste years this way,,,we have to do some work,,osmosis doesn't do it for us very often,,, I enjoyed this poem,,, :-)

Beautifully said.

I wonder what it says about me when I could get no message from this prompt?

Oooh! The dandelion is such a take on the image. The head inside all that fluff. Wow.
(love your cardinals header)

so imaginative-I am enjoying how everyone sees this image!

I love this idea of a dandelion blowing hither and yon ... dreams and wishes looking for a place to grow and prosper ...

The dandelion connection is very evocative.

A wish blown away - maybe- and she has come back for another try ?

It wasn't through my osmosis that I understood this but yours. It's a great transition from painting to word to photograph that you've created that the unconscious process of assimilation just jumped up and hit me in the head. A great wake up!

change came
through osmosis - and in my case, Ada!

Such an interesting picture prompt this week. I love the direction it took your poem!

Susan said...

You mean it doesn't?

I agree- Cad has changed since he met me, but perhaps it's best if you don't ask 'how'?

The whimsy of this piece is offset by the very real comment you have made about putting too much store in dreams.

The message in your poem ... profound. Worth reading more than once!!! Committing to memory.

so apt for the pic and so deep...great!

such a different take on the prompt! that osmosis line was brilliant.

Am I the only one who thinks Cassatt painted a young man, and that the osmosis implied is to be a woman? Just wondering.

However you interpret the poem, this was an inspired write, Laurie, going from fruit of the tree to dandelions and their promise of prolific new growth. (They and wild violets, which also grow like mad, are my favorites!) Amy

Excellent and wise Kerry. Action is necessary for change.

Can only echo how effective the dandelion image is. Fine interpretation of the picture.

If only one can exploit the strengths
when they appear. Dreams apparently are elusive! Nicely Laurie!

I thought it was a picture of Brian Boytano...lol...I mean look at it! Great painting and equally lovely poem. The sticky mess of me being 45 is that I do feel like I have wasted an eternity and not realized whatever that thing is that makes me , me. But I suppose I have and its just not all that interesting...lol. God gives you the keys to universe and says drive at some point in most peoples life, when in your life that point is depends on so many things. Great thoughts Laurie. Loved it.

So many people think change will come through osmosis, and the dream will suddenly come true, without them ever participating in developing their own lives.

This makes me want to join in the dream and wait a bit.

But there is something in being able to change things just by a whiff. Like magic, even for a moment our cares are drifting away with those seeds in flight.

Have you read Charles Dickens' book, Bleak House? Waiting and not waiting oposed is the theme of this book.

A true case of wasted wishes...this made me feel so sad.

Very nice, Laurie. If only change DID come through osmosis.....how easy it would be!
