Do you remember that spontaneous
road trip when, like shards of glass,
your cutting words crashed in my lap,
shattered our happily-ever-after dreams?
Everything I thought we had
now engorged in lies, glazed over
that scarring day our future
imploded on Highway 105.

Oh, this is good...and intense, Laurie. I can feel the emotion in this poem!
Sounds like a painful way to end a relationship.
Excellent description of a relationship gone bad.
whew...lots of time to talk on road trips...which can be a dangerous thing it seems...smiles.
Awesome words - just awesome.
i feel sadened a little
I like the repetition of words and images that have to do with glass. It's subtle. I had to do a "reading" double-take.
Thanks for your poem.
Words areso often are sharper than knives, more's the pity...
so true,
physical wounds can be healed, not mental wounds.
smart piece of writing.
Wow, very powerful imagery.
So many wonderfully written poems here on your blog! It is a joy to come here. Your skill at setting different moods is amazing--I do hope Hwy 105 is not a real happening in your life.
I like the power your words have! I wish I could write with so much intensity and brevity!
Wherever your Highway 105 happens to be, stay safe! Nice writing ....
