Adolescence

From goldfish to Golden Boy
from tanked to incubated
survival in the wilderness
of testosterone
invading his ever-growing body
taller than pines
erected in a lustful mind
calling him to venture out
satisfy a growing urge
he'd rather keep a secret.

Laurie, this is one of your best ever! I'm thrilled with how this turned out; what a perfect interpretation. Bravo.

Excellent. I think you seized it, although I admit that time for me was very long ago.

You saw something in this that I wouldn't have caught in a million years and then you turned it into a piece of poetic gold! Very nice and captivating!

Wonderful what you were able to read into it...

I enjoyed your interpretation of the prompt, Laurie. The phrases you have spun together here, clearly define the psyche of a teenage boy. I'm happy you were willing to share these secrets. Thanks. =D

Goldfish to golden boy and tanked to incubated - lets us know the way this poem is going right from the start. Well observed.

I felt there was a strong sexual element to this as well , though i could not put it so eloquently. The goat god indeed haunts the wild and lonely places !

I am overcome with the feeling of the dawn of understanding and the loss of innocence. This piece invited me to see teenage male bravado, as a cover up for the loss of control over their bodies reactions. For me this is strong but disconcerting.

hoping it's the natural process of maturation but sounds a bit foreboding to me.

Wonderfully well posed. I don't remember ever hearing that growing up would be 'easy'. :)

This rings very true; in so few words you have captured the essence of maturation and all the confusion of being dipped in testosterone ... nicely done and a wonderful use of an enigmatic piece of artwork, in my view
