A Morning Twist of Fate

when you wake up, fetch
a cup of coffee (for me,
add a touch of cream,
for you a splash
of water).
We might be late.
Cause: A chill to mark our fate,
a let's - not - get - out - of - bed
quicker than the flicker of dawn
decision to satisify the need
for exercise. Go ahead,
implicate us... but
don't tell anybody.

haha....i blame my wife....she would not let me get out of bed this morning....just fifteen more minutes.....how can i resist....smiles...but yes, coffee black and off tot he races immediately after that....exercise....well that did not happen this morning...
This is cute- and so timely! On our news last night they (they always have this Good Question series) and it was about hitting the snooze alarm! Apparently-per the experts- it's better not to hit the snooze and sleep right up to the minute that you need to get up-and then get up! Crazy right? But true I guess!
I'm dreadful about getting out of bed, so (as your reader) it feels like I could be the one you are speaking to... but if you're waiting for me to get up first and fetch the coffee, we may both sleep 'til noon. :)
The thing is, get really old, then whoever wakes up first gets out of bed to make the coffee as a celebration of still being alive.
I love this
All the fun is in stretching (out the morning) and milky coffee..i picture two people happy in their different approaches to the day and all the rhythms and patterns of this fitting perfectly together..like these words..jae
I enjoyed yours and it did feel like a convo... I do remember in a fog, someone saying did you make coffee ;D but I didn't move...lol
Yes, pass the cream!
I love Altonian's comment. Yup. "Another day, still old". Hee hee. Enjoyed this poem, Laurie.
what! i don't want no water in my coffee. and get outta bed!
authentic - dig this fact about your poem -the wall is broken
In brevity, you tell the morning tale of so many. I like the directness, Laurie.
Laurie, so much fun! Chilly mornings are great for indoor activities (wink, wink) :-) Mix in a little chocolate and...
Poor me .. no one to make my coffee in the morning! Great poem! I am going to keep on dreaming/sleeping now.
.. the question we toss to one another is "who is going to let the four dogs out to go potty? ha ha.
Your poem made me laugh! This is my morning.
This is great: "quicker than the flicker of dawn decision to satisify the need for exercise"
Laurie, I LOVE coffee so much, I don't even want COFFEE in my coffee!
Hey, so well written is this, I read it 3 times (well, short also, ya know?--grin!). Oh I understood it alright.
TOMORROW I swear I will "out of bed" at first sound of alarm or cat!--same thing! And I will remember this piece, and you and your Peeps and their terrific comments....
PEACE! (and Thanks!)
Steve
hah ! fun isn't it ;)
I wait for my guy to call me up to wake me up. no getting out of bed without that morning dose of love :D
What better to wake up and find a fresh flower blooming by your side waiting for the bee.
quicker than the flicker of dawn
Brilliant line, this -- not least for it's subtle tinge of humour.
