The Scar of Regret

Regret is the scar
on her dimpled chin
quivering
like a puppy cradled
in strong helping hands

held out with ease.
The years, they heal
regret fades away
and running through endless
fields of bluebonnets
a yellow Labrador
cannot see the scar.

Beautifully written! I truly do believe that regrets are scars upon our soul, so this works well!

Wow, Laurie. You and I both featured 'dog stuff' in our Poetry Jam poems. I do think years eventually do heal regrets or make them less prominent in our lives. Eventually the scars are not visible to the naked eye. Thanks for jamming!

smiles....regret is the scar...i think scars add character, regrets not so much...they can def weight you down, if you dont learn to live again as the pups....

Powerful images bring the feeling of regret into clear view... You make it look so easy!

Your poem deserves to be read several times ... my first reaction was different from the others. Dog bite, a small boys' face, painful injections for rabies .. all surfaced for me.

Thank goodness for yellow labs running in happy fields. Time does heal but there is the scar. Good take on the prompt!

This can be read on several levels. It merits more than one reading. Very nice response to the prompt!

So much that is wonderful here, and after a couple of reads, I'm still struck with how well you weave the words together! Lovely.

I love that the quivering puppy turned into a strong yellow lab bounding through a field :)
