How I Roll

The problem is
I want my shoulder back
the one I used to

roll back and forth
lift up and down
shimmy Charo style

without a kink or spasm
that stops me in my tracks
like an Indian sunburn

and I want it back yesterday
not a year or two from now
because that’s just how I roll.

I do hope it is better soon, Laurie.

Thanks. I had a little setback yesterday. I guess now that I'm only going to PT once a week I'm being too hard on myself, pushing the pain limit with my own exercise regime. Today's a little better... it just takes time.

Laurie, I got a chuckle out of your poem, though the pain sounds anything but humorous. I LOVE "that's just how I roll". Hee hee. Be careful with the "pushing" - I am that way too, but it works against us.

Oh, yes, for the nonchalance of youth, the flippant shoulder shrug.. I miss mine too.

beautifully said, Laurie - really, you can make a wonderful poem out of anything! - and I can sympathize with you on the loss of shoulder movement

I hear ya laurie. Injuries that take time are the worst, been dealing with back/neck issues for a few years, and you do find yourself saying things like If i only had this one thing back…You poeticized this very well, even using the popular expression thesedays in the title. Thanks

I sprained my ankle a while back and it took so so long to heal. Our health we often take for granted. I LOVED "shimmy Charo style" and "like an Indian sunburn"!

It is hard to be embodied some days...a lot of days. I hope you will heal soon and get that shimmy back.

Wry and charming little piece. That shoulder, however, is not coming back; take it from one who knows.

I know what you mean Laurie...my back hurts until now and that fall was like 3 years ago ~

Take care ~

Hope you will get better soon...I remember working through my injuries after my car accident..one step forward and three steps back for a while, but success in the end!

I hear ya! Matter of fact, my chiropractor is working wonders and I'm just about back to normal.

"Charo style" — oh yes, she could dance!
I know what you mean. I want my body back, the one that used to go dancing.
I enjoyed this, Laurie. Good work.

Rollin' with the homies....you will get there soon. Seems to take forever for shoulders to get better. I love the position of strength in the poem, makes you huuuugggeeee baby!!!!!!! Now get better.

Shimmy Charo style... I love it. If you figure out a way to get that shoulder back, be sure to let me know. Maybe it would work on my hip, the one I used to swivel... ;-)

best wishes as you endeavor onward with your shoulder. Have you considered having a bionic one installed? Viva la

I hope you get it back and soon! My dad just had surgery on his shoulder yesterday.
