Bedtime

He walks backward to his room
as if time walks backward, too.
One more goodnight kiss,
is there something that he missed?
Mom and Dad watching TV
when all the children sleep.

When all the children sleep,
Mom and Dad watching TV.
Is there something that he missed?
One more goodnight kiss?
As if time walks backward too,
he walks backward to his room.

Ha, I can picture this, Laurie. Kids never like to go off to bed...there is always something MORE on television. The 'backward' concept worked VERY well with this poem.

Nicely done! Both ways with no awkwardness. I like the question--it was mine.

ha. well played little vignette laurie....so how many times do your kids get out of bed after being put there....mine, far too many...smiles.

You doubled our pleasure, Laurie, using the word backward twice, and mirroring the lines as you had illustrated. I adore palindrome poetics. It makes one look extra hard at each word in each line, and although the mirrored image is not always flawless, what mirrored image ever is?

The parents think that their kids are asleep but they are wrong . Action replay in reverse is your poetry.

You have written a sweet little vignette that anyone who has tried to put kids to bed can identify with. Laurie! I like how it works really well both ways.

Love this - Just what do parents do when children go to bed? They watch TV. So many depths here, great thoughts.

...if I was more strict (like my parents were) I wouldn't get out of bed like my son does... but he offers the BEST hugs and kisses. This poem is cute read either way.

Perfect...nothing walks faster backwards then a child you tried to put to bed

Laurie I love that line about walking backwards--so perfectly caught that recalcitrant sleepyhead :-)

I could picture that. Kids hate going to bed. Walking backwards must make them feel like they're still there. Very cute poem.
