True Olympians Remain Leaders

I feel for the Olympians.
From the opening ceremony
to the medal display,
their excitement
is mine.

I feel for the Olympians.
Each half-pipe flip or bobsled run
sits me on the couch's edge,
my adrenaline pumps
in overtime.

I feel for the Olympians.
My spirits glide over the ice
with skaters single and paired,
then slide to the floor
when they fall.

I feel for the Olympians.
They're all winners to me
and the world, role models
for kids. Leaders, achievers
having a ball.

I just wish they'd
keep their clothes on
when they're done.

Olympians can indeed be role models and examples of dedication and persistence. I could not help smiling at your last line!

great topic. Spirit and physique and all gather for the events each athlete competes in revealing skill, dedication and drive. Too bad when they become unglued--without clothes and without spirit at times too.

Loved this, Laurie, and smiled at the closing lines. Hee hee. They are all winners, who have worked hard to be there. Great write.

Tsk..I guess the first Olympians put clothes on afterwards rather than the reverse..at least that's what I remember from classics lessons an alarming amount of pots with naked people running around..there is something emotional about the effort that some people are willing to make to be the best..life is hard enough so their devotion and hard work should certainly be lauded

Oh yes, I feel for the Olympians too. What a lot of stress they must be under! And so true, what role models they can be!

I always try to imagine what they are thinking when they are competing. It is especially difficult, I would think, to put a fall or a misstep behind you. They are amazing.

Oh, and I was going to say - I like the structure and pattern of the stanzas.

A very funny take on what I can't decide was on purpose - or a mistake. Oh, Olga . . .

Laurie,

A wonderful poem for a much deserved group of sportspeople. They are the true representatives for each country. Working to their best capacity to bring back gold!!!

Ha. The end here made me smile. I feel with the Olympians too. It's so exciting. Sad, that there are only three winners in a category. To me, they're all winners.

Brilliant, life is so much better with your clothes on, but the excitement does get to one. Great poem.

it's a long uphill climb of dedication and sacrifice.

Laurie, you nailed it exactly! My heart is in my throat for all of them, so sad when they fall (my take on the prompt). All those years of work. Really enjoyed this (and fun ending) :-)

Ok, the ending of your poem is funny, funny! You capture the sensations, emotions of the Olympic experience so well.

All that hard work, I guess they forget the simple stuff about clothing!

Captures well the Olympic spirit, and as for keeping their clothes on, the competitors fo the original Olympic Games all competed nude! :-)

Laurie, I have not been here for TOO LONG. The Olympics, I have my heart in my throat the whole time. The Socho courses were so sloppy, so dangerous, that it was impossible to enjoy the Half Pipe, which I try to support because it's fun to see the rowdy kids doing the daredevil thing, but this time, the slush, too much. Same for the ice skating...

I agree, Olympians can be role models, bu5 some are not, and that's how it is with sports, right? Your last line had me laughing out loud and agreeing.

But the one I wished most would keep his shirt on was Putin, ha ha. Peace, Amy

I found the ending funny. I love what you said about all Olympians being winners, whether or not they make it to the podium.
