one, two, three strikes you're out
it's horrible, this home
plate I'm on, with eyes
like tasers aimed
at my swing
strike one
okay, I'm sweating now
my slip/slide palms
a slick film,
it seems as if
a hundred pounds
of listless arms
weigh me down
strike two
ouch!
strike three
how can they call
me moody? I mean
wouldn't you
do the same thing, too?
It's not my fault
I saw a bug
hop across
my shoe

Like the protagonist of your poem, I often find myself distracted by small things--bugs included!
HaHaHaHa!!! perfect!
Oh, I can totally understand that feeling! I have definitely been distracted by bugs before ;)
Those darn bugs!
fun distraction there in the end...much more so than the stress of striking out...no one wants to strike out....
It is so disappointing when one strikes out for whatever reason!
Bugs can certainly put you off your game..real or otherwise..swat!
Dead good, love the three strikes theme, and the amazing rhymes in the last verse.
LOL... my granddaughter was writing in the dirt as a ball was coming her way last year... you got it!
ha ha a bug sounds like me when I was playing other sports (baseball I loved and paid attention in.)
I love it! Reminds me of the time in school when I saw a huge spider and threw my eraser at it, causing considerable disturbance in the room.....loved the "listless arms" in your poem.......
Ha, ha! This reminds me that a few days ago, I saw a huge house spider and smashed it with my slipper, not realizing my finger was also under the afore-mentioned slipper!
Laurie, this works so well with the "bugs" of life. Gotta be careful where we swing.
How are you? You've been in my prayers.

Loved that you put a comic “spin” on this, Laurie – a little nod, to the spirit of Ernest Thayer’s "Casey".
Strike out! Never want it. One often are 'struck out' by little things that often irritate more than anything else. Truly true, Laurie!

This made me smile. Nice write. It reminded me of my students today who were going ballistic because they saw a bug on the ceiling.
Ha! This is fun Laurie...better luck next time ;)
Life is a game, it is so much more bearable when you are good sport. Whack!
What I don't understand is how, when I take a swipe at them, moths just totally disappear. I have no idea where they go.
Ah, the stress of hitting the ball! Loved that little funny twist ... bugs and baseball ... summertime distractions!
Love it the small things in life often cause the most problems. Strike three!! i think.
Good one indeed
Laurie, you made me laugh! Didn't see that one coming :-) Great descriptions of the tensions of being in the spotlight of home plate
ewww...i don't love bugs
Ha ha! Nice surprise at the end. Good write, Laurie.
