Surprise

Watercolor Art by Laurie Kolp
I painted this very elementary piece (but I'm still proud of it) at a museum earlier this week while on a field trip with my middle child. I never aimed to be an artist, although I did take art in college and loved it. My assignments proved to be great fodder for bunts of jokes and resulted in highly humorous entertainment to all my friends and family. That is until I was taught how to sketch still life from upside down pictures. I hope to one day get back into painting/drawing. What do you think?

I like it! It reminds me of road trips to Oregon when I was younger. We spent every summer with my great-grandmother in Oregon. It was a long drive from California, but I knew we were getting close when it started looking like this. I would hang this on my wall. ^_^

I personally took up writing to add depth to my photography. I have a feeling you would find painting would bring insights to your writing. You have an artists eye. I say go for it!

Very nice, Laurie. Really I think there are a lot of poets who have other creative talents. Diane discovered her talent to paint (and was very gifted at it) after her writing talent. Even I took up the brush for a time and hope to get back to it too. Keep it up, Laurie.

I agree, it's lovely! :) I love combining making art with writing--I find that, for me, it helps to kind of "unlock" parts of my brain; when I'm working on an art project, my mind is focused differently than when I'm just writing or working on anything else.

Thanks for sharing it with us! :)

A surprise it is...a new side of you.

It's a lovely painting. Perhaps you could use it as a cover for a future chapbook.
