Some Battles Never End

“Loose as a hedgehog,”
he pouts about the
umpteenth pair of hand-me-down
jeans mom thinks are treasures,
but her youngest thinks
are leftovers.

“Tight as a water buffalo,”
he cries after his
strong refusal to
wear big brother jeans-
an obstinate battle
that is all too familiar.

Some battles never end.
