When "Just Thinking About" Becomes "Real"

My lanky body a pretzel
as I wait for school's end,
windows rolled down, doors open
enough to feel the subtle breeze.

On my mind, this poem and bees-
the time I attracted them
during field day, my perfume
I thought strong enough
to cover up sweaty skin
a mere allure;
from peace to chaos,
destruction.

A silly scene unfolded
as my students watched
their teacher

FrEaK oUt.

Fast forward: now.
A wasp inside the car;
dare I grab my camera,
a fleeting thought
as I stiffen up, jump out,
an ultimatum on my mind-
the wasp or me?

I won.

Stop the car first, before you jump out. Loved it, the panic a wasp creates. Great poem

Fun prompt Laurie and I like what you did with the arrangement of your poem. Funny how these things happen when you are "just thinking about."

Agh--bees! When I learned they have the same venom as rattlesnakes, I was not surprised. It is a pain I don't like repeating.

We often had these red wasps from a neighbouring tree, as visitors through our open window, mostly in summer!! I have experienced their bite and now I will run miles if I see one coming!! :D

Had to laugh about the perfume! That sounds like something I would have done!

Liked the way you arranged the words in your poem. The ending definitely was a good close to what could have been a painful situation. Wasps can definitely be a sore spot!

Enjoyed your prompt, Laurie.

This is good. I would have reacted the same way to a wasp.

I can visualize you 'running away' from that wasp!!!

Laurie, so much fun! These little buzzers can really cause pandemonium--my 6'2 son does a great hokey pokey when a wasp is around...thank you for the smiles!

Like the pitch and rhythm here. Thanks.

I wonder whether it is the fear of being stung that freaks you out or do you have an allergy that requires caution? Either way your encounters I am sorry to say were amusing.

My guess is that we've all freaked out sometime in such circumstances - though probably not all would admit it. (Interestingly, I've just now read an article declaring that eating wasps and such like could be the salvation of the planet!)

So unnerving to have a wasp in the car with you ... I like how you have a current situation in juxtaposition with a previous traumatic event ... must have SOME perfume! And oh,buzzing students! I can see that swarm of activity!
