Sophomoric

entanglement
in the parking lot,
heartless honks
and cars backed up
in jagged lines
like zipper spines--
walk with a book
on your head--
need not lead to death,
but saggy pants just might

Fashions change, don't they? (And hopefully 'saggy pants' will soon pass.)

There was even a time when women would be expelled for wearing any kind of pants.

Yes being in style is so important on that first day of school. And I can well picture the lines of cars!

Alway struck me that "Sophomore" was a bit of an oxymoron... :-) Good one Laurie, I had to smile with this one.

Appearances are so important to the young especially as they emerge from childhood. This took me back so many years and the need then to make a good impression.

Dress says so much...sigh. I guess it always did, but not in a dangerous way.

Gabriella mentioned girls and pants - yes, throughout my school career, girls were not allowed to wear slacks in school. No one even tried it of course, because you would just be expelled. You cold wear pants underneath your skirt for recess in the winter.
