Hold Life

lined in autumn colors
a winding path that leads to you
door after door adorned
with wreaths of red, yellow and orange
pumpkins and cornucopias the frames

of mind, I'm a bit unsettled here
walking on waxen floors
so shiny I'm following shadows
to your room where I'll find you
holding onto life

You have worked well the colors of autumn into the first stanza of your poem, Laurie...and I feel the reflective sadness in your second!

There is a sad contrast between the colors in the first stanza as people rejoice with the arrival of fall and the thoughts that bring you back to your mom in the second one.

Mmmm. A few (whoops, wrote 'tears'...instead of 'years'...what does that tell you?)years back I had the same September feelings with first my dad, and two years later my mom. September is still an unsettling month. I know what you mean...

despite the colors all around there's a foretelling of emptiness...last few lines captivate this so well...

No matter what are the conditions, good or bad one should always stay positive in life and you point it out very nicely.

You have done a marvelous job here of mixing autumn the season and the autumn of life. Hugs.

Oh autumn....time of leavings - time of that one glorious last burst of color before the winter gray sets in.......beautiful, Laurie.

Beautiful rusty and gold colors given pride of place but still there is that tinge of sadness! Nicely Laurie!

You have captured the colors of fall within the shadows of life.

A wonderful poem, Laurie. The season of harvest, quiet times and decline works well with the second stanza which I took to be a reflection on old age; an elderly relative perhaps confined to her room?
