Coloring Outside the Lines

In my head I paint a picture*
of how my life should be
who says what in this or that
situation... which never happens.

Anxiety forms a playground
where doubt and fear can spin
colors twirl and splash everywhere
a blob... no one understands.

Why worry about tomorrow
they say with nonchalance
you don't have to color
in the lines... let it go.

*from Amy Winehouse's "Valerie"

So sad. So much talent, gone so young.

"Let it go." Yes, indeed. Well written!

Interesting take on this challenge to individuals.

you know there are certain lines that are good to color in...and you can still be creative...

Indeed we should ~

Loved Amy's music, but hated watching her demise. Very sad, indeed. Rainbows know no borders, and I personally prefer it when the colours bleed :)

I wish she'd gone to rehab and it worked, worked, worked. Her music was brilliant, her voice was thrilling, and she was a stoned mess. We always wonder about these kinds of genius. I think about Plath that way. Thanks for posting, Gay

coloring outside the lines is easier said then done; when anxiety spins everything out of control creating the perfect picture sometimes is all you have.

lovely poem!

A very poignant and thought-provoking poem on the vagaries of the artistic soul in all of us. Nicely done! I was inspired last night to write another poem about A.W. Thank you for sharing yours!

Great write. I just love the second stanza, especially the line "Anxiety forms a playground". Beautiful imagery.
