No Ordinary Pacifier

A wooden pier, a stick
ClankClankClankClank
only it’s a baby, a Blow Pop
ClankClankClankClank
against the bumpy wall
he drags it, then pops it
on his purple lips, licks it
because it’s too big for his mouth
lick, lick, lick
and it falls to the floor and breaks
I wonder what he’ll do
he bends down, examines the sucker
as if it’s a bug
gives the candy to his oblivious mom
who wipes his hands, gives him
a red Blow Pop this time
looks at me and says
it keeps him quiet

LOL, it may keep him quiet; but it may drive you crazy!!! I could picture this scene well from your words.

You turned the moment into something worth thinking about - how quick we are to stop the mouths of children with sugar.

Lovely images here and the little ones sure like their sugar!

Just imagine how loud things could have gotten without the sucker! Love the onomatopoeia in this :)

Thought provoking...sugar never leads to quiet! Okay, a few moments...very short lived!
Well Done

Yes, Ella is spot on!! This was really well portrayed, Laurie. I've been enjoying your saying without saying on issues that should stop one to think. :)

As a hyper adult whose husband tries to keep my sugar intake at a minimum i would advise a mom to not attempt to pacify with sugar...great poem!

...and what will happen when this little one finally gets into the school system? I feel for those teachers.

BUT with that said, there are times an instant pacifier for the young ones is needed... I've been there, done that a time or two myself. :)
