Withdrawal

Refrigerate
your anxious need
to sugarcoat the situation;
 I'm devoted to helping you
through this phase of life.
I sleep on ice
while you sweat,
watch your weakened body
melt away as scrawny legs
freeze up, refuse to move
without assistance.
I'm here.

Withdrawal is such a powerful title..although sad there is a great amount of determination and strength in these words..sugar coating can definitely waste valuable time it's almost as if you demonstrate this in the paring down of words

You are in a difficult position there, Laurie; but I am sure you are handling it with grace. I am guessing Presence right now is her greatest need.

and being there matters, you know...that we set aside our own comfort for another...it is noble...and having you there matters.....know that.

aw you're there for them that's the most important thing

I'm with Brian - you are noble. It is often hard for the one being cared for to accept the situation, so used are they to being the caregivers......as Mary says, your Presence is such a huge gift. The "I'm here" so loving and strong. You shine, kiddo - know that, even if all you feel right now is tired beyond belief.

Such actions earn you a front row seat in Heaven. Good, reassuring poem.

When you 'go there' deep in your pain, I am reminded of the years I watched as my mom wasted, faded away. Stay strong, Laurie. This is powerful.

Laurie, those first 3 lines are so perfect, it's hardest but best to face it without the sugar coating. Let's you speak from the heart. Much love and empathy for you and your mom. PS loved that photo of your son running through the frosty air
