Stoned Love

a grave at the Novodevichy Cemetery, Moscow

To free herself of strangulation
she found the strength at last,
but his heart remained
a stone in the palm of her hands.

*

Unrequited love entombed
a hardened heart forever cast.

Brief though it is, the first one works really well. It just goes to show that a poem of substance can be obtained from just two statements.

A sad commentary on a person who wants to subjugate another...... "A hardened heart forever cast." The world could use fewer hardened hearts. Thank you for sharing this beautifully expressed poem, Laurie.

SO good, Laurie! I went in a similar direction.

Loved "to free herself of strangulation" and "his heart remained a stone."

Unrequited love sucks...but your poem doesn't! Great descriptions brief and packed with meaning.

"a hardened heart forever cast" - a very nice take on this image Laurie; in a few words you've created a poignant image of bitterly unrequited
love. Well done.
