Hope O-O-Os

They passed the calumet
around the campfire
a ceremonial rite of passage
marked with peace.
To the heavens smoke rings
lifted O-O-Os
hoping disharmony
in the world to cease.

At least rites of peace have always accompanied the days of war, a balance may be the best we can hope for.
