Breech

She'd rather be hit in the gut by
a bowling ball than endure the labor
pains that crept up in the night like a
black bear. The doctor said to
cancel all plans for a natural child-
birth, the baby was a Buddha planted
on her seat, breech and budge
LESS it wasn't worth the risk; but
she worked her elastic squeeze
ball during the C-section anyway.

I was told my daughter was in the breech position, but at seven months, my stomach moved into a horizontal position one day, and the next, daughter stood obligingly on her head! Love your writing here :)

Very effective. I especially like: "pains that crept up in the night like a black bear."

Breech births must run in my family. I came out bottom first and my son did as well.

Thanks for this post. It reminded me to be thankful to all women that they do this important job after our pathetic contribution. We owe you!

This poem was vivid enough to give me labor pain flashbacks! Great job, Laurie.

The word elastic seems to inspire thoughts of child-birth. But it's not THAT elastic!
