I Love Animals
~by Laurie Kolp
Animals, animals big and small
Are the best friends of all
I love dogs with all my heart
Except when loose in the street
While jogging, they come nipping
Barking ferociously at my feet
I love cats with all my heart
Except when an eerie black one
Inadvertently crosses my path
Causing bad luck, I have to run
I love squirrels with all my heart
Except when they mysteriously sneak up
Like an acrobat in Cirque de Soliel
And steal my birdseed for their sup
I love horses with all my heart
Except when they don’t listen to me
While riding and holding the reins
One sensed my fear, ran amid a tree
Animals, animals big and small
Are the best friends of all

Good poem! i love em too, big or small! As long as they are furry and sweet!
Sorry Laurie... I had to smile at the first lines. I guess it could do with some work, but, you know what? I love 'em to, dammit!
Just feels childlike, not bad. Aren't we a funny crew?
hee hee! all my heart!
This has a very innocent childlike feel about it.. but I do love animals too :-P
All kinds of dogs I just adore
Until they shit upon my floor!
They look so cute with paws that beg
And then they try to hump my leg!
Hope you don't mind my having a little fun, Laurie! I do know exactly what you mean about the animals, especially the squirrels (little devils!)
this is awesome in its badness :). funny thing, though, my kids have a few poetry books, and the stuff that's published in the name of childrens' lit... well, you're right on par!
Lolamouse deserves a gold star for her comment. The Bad Poem, on the other hand, is cringe worthy enough to forgo such an honour. Well done! LOL
A very good bad poem. I agree, it has innocence.
The horse "ran amid a tree" is wonderful. Rates right up there with Joyce Kilmer.
"I think that I shall never see
A horse than ran amid a tree"
Really enjoyed this, Laurie.

Not without a hint of Father Ted's My Lovely Horse. Beautifully awful.
