Whispering Waves

Do you hear the whispering
waves pleading for your
warmth?
Winter's wrath
a snobby woman
chilling to the bone
soon to be washed away
this erosion on bent knees
begs for the first breath of spring.

Laurie, this was such an unexpected response to my photograph! And I love it! So often folks associate beach scenes with summer and warmth. Your imagery here was so unique. I'm so delighted that my photo of this lighthouse inspired you this way! I'm sure you recognized it as Cape Hatteras; I love this spot.

Love the alliteration, Laurie, and the snobby woman...enjoyed it.

What a wonderfully unique metaphor - I could see the strand and the old woman so clearly in your words.

Nice twist on which entity offers what... You continue to evolve as a writer and wordsmith, laurie. The process is a delight to behold.

What a brilliant analogy for winter, a snobby old woman. It is that time of year to ditch the dirty melting snow banks and knee deep mud in favor of a nice breeze and budding trees. Of course I live in phoenix, so I don't know anything about that...lol Great write.

From your poem I can almost FEEL the arrival of spring! Nicely expressed.

Winter as a "snobby woman" is just a top-shelf metaphor. Very nice piece.

What a wonderful way of putting it, Laurie, and you said so much in a few words. Perfection!

Your poem made me shiver. Effective! And yes, I too am impatient for the warmth of spring.

Some really clever and telling images here. For a short poem it punches well above its fighting weight.
